German Military Symbols
Tactical Symbols of the WW2 German Armed Forces
© 2010
356 pages; 41 chapters
The German Armed Forces used military symbols extensively on WW2 maps, in tables
of organization, and on direction and location signposts in combat zones. Military
symbols were also seen on German Armed Forces vehicles and equipment, with or
without the divisional emblem. The German military symbols system consisted of a
number of basic and supplementary symbols, which are combined to indicate various
headquarters, units, and equipment.
German Military Symbols, a handy and easy to understand reference e-book (originally
published in April, 1944) details the WW2 German military symbols, graphing out the
individual military symbol (including changed versions within the German system)
alongside the US and British equivalent description. In addition, examples are given of how
the tactical symbols were combined to show how more complex concepts of
organizational charts are depicted.
The military symbols are arranged in groups according to logical and structural
principles. These groups usually, but not always, coincide with the German classification
of units according to arm of the WW2 German Armed Forces.
